Bill Ullery Talks Favorite Dessert, Events & Life at the Beach

In this edition of 30A Q&A, we caught up with Bill Ullery of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Beach Properties of Florida to find out some of his favorite tips for experiencing 30A like a true local.
1. What’s your favorite way to stay fit on 30A?
My favorite way to stay fit on 30A is something not many even know about — one of our many hiking/biking trails through Point Washington State Forest.
I love taking my bike through it on a weekend. There are three loops on the Eastern Lake Trail, a 3.5 m, 5 m, and 10 m loop and it’s my favorite place to ride. It’s great exercise, beautiful scenery, and something different to do than going to the beach.

One of my favorite local events is the Rags to Riches Hobie Cat race every July 4th weekend at Grayton Beach. For one, Grayton Beach is my favorite place on 30A, and the beach access, which is the only one on 30A that allows permitted vehicles, is a great way to get to the beach. The crowds are great and watching the colorful boats race by is a lot of fun. And of course, the post-race activities are always a blast!
3. What’s your favorite dessert on 30A?
Wow…this is a hard one. We have many great places to eat here, but I think I’m going with the bread pudding at one of my favorite places to eat on 30A, Stinky’s! It will knock your socks off! Also, if you ask, they’ll put some vanilla ice cream on top. It’s not on the menu but they usually do it for you. It’s the best I’ve ever had.
4. What’s your favorite way to spend time outdoors?
My favorite way to spend the outdoors is with my family. My 6, 8, and 9-year-olds love going to the beach. They love to look for seashells and play in the waves. We also take lots of games with us when we go to the beach.

5. What’s your favorite month on 30A? And why?
My favorite month on 30A is October, definitely. The weather is just perfect and the crowds aren’t too bad (even though we love our visitors!) since we’re in our shoulder season. Taking a walk on the beach in the evening when the temperatures are in the ’70s is incredible. And going to dinner at a restaurant on the beach is really great!
BONUS: What makes living at the beach so special?
Living at the beach is special for a lot of reasons.
We have, in my opinion, the most beautiful beaches in the world and a community of people that really appreciate that beauty.
This is a community that really does typify what it means to be at an authentic beach town. Being that I sell real estate here, I can’t imagine a place I’d rather work. I love that we live in a place where the community leaders truly want to preserve what our beach towns should be.
