URGENT: Alaqua Animal Refuge Needs Help!

Hibiscus Coffee & Guesthouse in Grayton Beach is hosting a “Mimosas for Mutts” fundraising event this Sunday, August 25, from 11 am to 2 pm for Alaqua Animal Refuge —Walton County’s “no-kill” animal shelter.

Volunteers will be pouring champagne and orange juice for donations to the refuge to help with costs arising when the facility was asked by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office to take in nearly 100 dogs and 6 horses resulting from an ongoing animal abuse investigation. The sudden influx of animals doubled their dog population overnight and put the already strained facility at maximum occupancy. [read more about this tragic case]

Also, don’t miss the Alaqua Support Event at Redd’s Fueling Station this Thursday at 6:30pm! Another great opportunity to help!!

To make matters worse, for legal reasons, AAR is not allowed to adopt out any of the dogs until the ongoing criminal case has been resolved. Consequently, the facility and its volunteers are operating in “emergency management” mode.

Alaqua is also in desperate need of supplies and are asking for donations of:

Paper towels

Large, heavy-duty garbage bags

Pedigree canned adult and puppy food

Pedigree Little Champions pouches of food (pate style preferred)

Bleach

Sheets

Laundry detergent

Monetary and supply donations can be made at Hibiscus during the event or brought to the facility at 914 Whitfield Road in Freeport. Donations can also be made online at www.alaquaanimalrefuge.org/HowtoHelp
